Young All Whites face Club Brugges in Qatar
The ASPIRE Academy in Doha today plays host to a friendly football match between the New Zealand All Whites and a young team from Club Brugges.
The Young All Whites withdrew from the Sanix Cup because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
New Zealand U-17 coach Steve Cain said;
“Brugges are a big club in Europe and this represents a chance for our boys to play against a team from a different culture and playing background, the kind of playing styles we could come up against in Mexico. They are keen to play us for exactly the same reasons. All part of the playing education these boys need to move up to the next level,”
He described the facilities ASPIRE Academy as “awe-inspiring.”
“I have never seen anything like it – there are twelve pitches, including an indoor stadium that seats 5,000 people. The playing surfaces have to be seen to be believed. Also indoor athletics, basketball, handball, two or three Olympic-sized pools and diving pools – all under one roof.”
The Academy for Sports Excellence is a dedicated educational facility providing exceptional and comprehensive learning environment for children from twelve and up who exhibit sporting potential.
The Young All Whites programme also includes three more matches on Friday, Monday and Wednesday.
